John Brockhouse: guitar, guitalele, vocals, percussion & occasional double bass
John’s interest in traditional music was probably initiated by exposure to country dance tunes at primary school. Folk & progressive rock were his principal musical interests during teenage years & later, through hearing Miles Davis' album “Kind of Blue", he developed an interest in jazz & improvisation. He has performed on double bass, bass guitar, acoustic guitar & soprano saxophone with a wide diversity of acts within the spheres of folk, jazz, popular & classical music, musical theatre, contemporary & South Indian dance.
Emma Hunt: flute, piccolo & vocals
Emma has only recently been introduced to the world of traditional & folk music, as a result originally of joining with Ashley & John to perform as a trio at music nights at the school where they all work. As a teenager Emma played the cello & piano & was very involved in singing in her local church choir. She has played both flute & piccolo in the Royal Air Force Association Presidents Band for the past 18 years, regularly performs in concerts across the South of England & has toured abroad with the band a number of times.
Ashley Clark: mandolin, vocals, melodeon, guitar, cello & percussion
Apart from bringing his multi-instrumentalist abilities to the ensemble, Ashley has contributed original tunes to Stumbling Block’s repertoire. He also performs as a singer-songwriter & is a talented composer of children’s songs. In addition to the instruments above, he can turn his hand to performing on banjo, ukulele & keyboards - in fact, put any instrument within his reach & he will play it!
Felicity Taylor: violin, vocals, percussion & recorder
In addition to traditional folk & historic music with the Stumbling Block ensemble, Felicity has played the violin with jazz groups & traditional music bands. The violin lends itself beautifully to many different styles. A new jazz project with piano, voice & double bass is currently being planned & Felicity has recently commenced post-graduate studies in composition, fulfilling a long-held ambition.
Caroline Hale: recorders, vocals crumhorn & shawm
Caroline read Music at Christchurch University, Kent where she specialized in Early Music. She owns an impressive collection of period instruments comprising Medieval, Baroque plus a full consort of Renaissance recorders, a shawm & a crumhorn called 'Ellie'.
